Fitness experts have undergone special training so they can help cancer patients.

Leisure trust Cultural Community Partnerships, which runs the Pemberton Centre and Splash Pool in Rushden and the Nene Centre in Thrapston, has sent two of their fitness professionals on the first level four cancer rehabilitation course run by the Wright Foundation in the UK.

A partnerships spokesman said: “There is strong evidence linking the benefits of an active lifestyle with the fight against cancer and this is the first course of its type for the UK, where fitness professionals are trained to support cancer patients through the various stages and types of cancer treatment. We are now setting about the task of educating local health providers and other cancer support bodies that we are here to help and offer another form of professional support. We are excited to be leading the way within our industry and hope to be able to help cancer patients improve their quality of life.”
