Fight against large-scale dealing to continue
POLICE have now arrested a total of 11 people in a series of raids in Corby and Kettering to dismantle a large-scale commercial drug-dealing operation.
At least one person was due to appear in court today following the raids in Corby and Kettering, which involved 90 police officers.
They swooped on houses in Eastbrook, Gainsborough Road and Fontwell Crescent, in Corby, and Alexandra Street, Kettering.
Four of the suspects arrested have now been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Seven remain in custody and at least one, possibly more, was expected to appear at Northampton Magistrates Court today. The operation followed months of meticulous gathering of intelligence and was aimed at dismantling a sophisticated drugs network.
Police closed down a fortified drugs house known as “The Shop” in Eastbrook, on the Lincoln estate.
Among those arrested on Thursday were three women aged 24, 31 and 53 and five men aged 19, 31, two aged 33 and 35-year-old.
The raids followed the closure of three drugs houses in Corby in 2010 when 15 arrests were made.
Police said the raid on the Eastbrook property, which had a nine-foot metal fence to the rear and CCTV cameras, has put the town’s last remaining fortified drugs house out of business.
Corby sector commander Insp Gary Williams said: “This operation was the result of our focus on dismantling the large-scale commercial distribution of drugs.
“We are determined to make our communities safer and will not tolerate the supply of drugs on our estates. We will continue to gather evidence and intelligence and to work with the community and we ask people to trust us and work with us. We have worked long and hard with the community to identify the key people involved.”
Community support officers were out in the areas where Thursday’s raids took place, reassuring people about what has been going on.
Det Insp Lorraine Gordon, who led the operation, said: “This type of policing operation will send out a very clear message to organised crime groups that their criminality will not be tolerated in Northamptonshire. We will make every effort to bring offenders to justice and ensure that our communities are safe.”
