Fight against houses is lost

Controversial plans to build 45 homes on a site in Corby have been approved.

Corby Council officers have approved the plans by Keepmoat Homes to build six flats and 39 houses on an area of land between Bamburg Close, off Copenhagen Road, and a neighbouring industrial area.

The plans had previously been rejected by councillors and withdrawn by the developers after members of the action group Danesholme Inhabitants Against Loss of Green Land – known as Dialog – campaigned that the land should be kept as a green area for leisure activities.

Members of the group met developers to ask for the plans to be changed before they were put forward again.

Bamburg Close resident William Hammell's house backs onto the proposed site and has said residents in the street were not aware the plans had even been resubmitted.

He said: "I haven't seen any plans on this. I wasn't so concerned about the houses, but where they were located, they are right up to my back fence.

"It seems like it has just been sneaked through without anyone knowing. Usually you are sent a letter but I haven't had one and my neighbours haven't either."

The plans also include provisions for new green areas to be planted and for the creation of more than 70 parking spaces.

They were initially rejected in November last year, but Keepmoat adjusted them based on the comments made by residents and members of the action group about keeping an area of woodland to the east of the proposed housing development.

The proposal is a mixed development of flats alongside two and three-storey town houses with garages.

And Keepmoat Homes has also suggested a 2.5-metre fence be put up around the new properties to lower the daytime noise from traffic going in and out of the industrial units.
