Father and son's kidney operation hailed a success

A devoted dad and his son are recovering in hospital after both undergoing surgery to give Jordan a life-changing kidney transplant.

Paul Davies and son Jordan went under the knife in separate Birmingham hospitals on Monday and both procedures went to plan.

The Thrapston family have an anxious three-month wait to see if Jordan's body rejects the organ but initial signs are good, as levels of a toxin present in large quantities in people with kidney disease have fallen dramatically in Jordan.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph from his hospital bed, Mr Davies, 35, said: "It was definitely worth it because Jordan is going to be a lot better. I would do it again tomorrow if I had to – he can have the other one.

"I'm not too bad, just quite sore. I'm now on normal painkillers so I can move around a bit more."

Jordan's mum Wendy Davies has been keeping a vigil at Jordan's bedside, sleeping on a fold-out bed.

She said: "It went really well. He is still in quite a lot of pain, but the kidney is working.

"It was a very long day on Monday. It was very draining and emotional.

"I'm looking forward to them both being out of pain and back home."

The initial success is based on a reduction in creatinine levels, which

is a chemical toxin present in all people. A healthy kidney will filter out the majority of it and levels are often higher in people with kidney disease.

Family friend Malcolm Harris said: "The good news is after Jordan's four-hour operation, the creatinine levels in his body have dropped by more than 50 per cent.

"The staff are pleased with his progress so far.

"He's very tired but in a good frame of mind. He's always had a very positive approach to this operation because he knows it will help him regain his health."

Jordan was suffering with a mysterious kidney disease which killed two of his aunts and doctors struggled to understand why they had all been affected.

After a series of tests, his dad was confirmed as a suitable donor last December.
