Faryl joins line-up at switch-on ceremony

Singing star Faryl Smith will be a special guest at the ceremony to switch on Kettering's Christmas lights.

In a surprise last-minute announcement it was revealed that the 14-year-old will join the cast of Peter Pan to help illuminate the town at the Market Place tomorrow.

She will join TV stars including Louisa Lytton, who played Ruby in EastEnders and came third in Strictly Come Dancing in 2006.

Connect FM is helping to run the event and breakfast show presenter Gregg Nunney said: "It's a great surprise that Faryl will be here.

"Kettering is so proud of her and everything she has achieved.

"In the run-up to the release of her new album we know how busy she is so it's wonderful to have her here."

The fun starts at the Market Place at 11am with a jazz band, and other highlights will include a dance parade and a puppet show.

It will be the first time the ceremony has been held in the new-look Market Square.

The lights will be switched on at 4pm.

Mr Nunney said: "We hope this is going to be a great event and would urge people to come along and enjoy the day."

Louisa Lytton takes the star role in the Peter Pan panto being staged at The Deco in Northampton.

Joining Lousia and Faryl will be Danny McCall, who played Owen in Brookside for seven years, and Tony O'Callaghan, who has appeared in Doctors and Holby City, as well as The Bill for 12 years as Sgt Boyden.

Christina Bailey, best known as Dannii in Hollyoaks for two years, will bring some glamour to the event and she will be joined by former Byker Grove star Hazel Pude.

Kettering resident Paul Hawkins, of Bath Road, said: "Faryl is the biggest thing in Kettering at the moment.

"It's good for the town, and her, that she's going to be here to do it."
