Family's fun day in Rikki's memory
A fundraising summer picnic is due to take place this month in memory of a woman who died of Huntington's Disease.
Kettering woman Rikki Lyman died last year aged 27, having been diagnosed with the disease when she was 13.
Her family is holding the event at the Rockingham Road Pleasure Park, and is appealing to people from across the area to come out and enjoy the day on August 30 from 2pm to 6pm to help raise money for the Huntington's Disease Association.
Rikki's mother, Myrna Lyman, of Dalkeith Avenue, Kettering, said: "We thought that a family picnic day would be great for people.
"We wanted to hold something which would appeal to families and also something which brings a lot of people from the community together.
"We hope it's going to be a great day."
The family will raise money at the event by collecting donations on the day.
Mrs Lyman said: "The event is also going to include a bouncy castle for children, a brass band and entertainment from local musicians.
"We will be holding a raffle as well."
Rikki died on October 25 last year.
Huntington's disease affects about 7,000 people across the UK, however juvenile Huntington's disease – which Rikki had – only affects 80 children across the country.
The disease affects the working of the brain, co-ordination and the ability to think coherently.
Mrs Lyman said it was important that families who have lost someone through Huntington's disease know they are not suffering in isolation and research is being done by groups such as the Huntington's Disease Association.
The family is appealing for anyone who can help with raffle prizes for the event to call 01536 516241.
