Fairline tops £100m orders

LUXURY yacht maker Fairline Boats has advance orders of more than £100m for the first time in the company's history.

The firm, based in Oundle and Corby, has confirmed business is booming at its Northamptonshire factory as the autumn boat show season starts.

Fairline has confirmed advanced deposited orders of more than 100 million and boasts an order book that includes seven confirmed sales for its flagship Squadron 78 in the last two months alone.

Fairline's sales and marketing director James Robinson said: "We have seen increased demand for the Fairline brand over the last 12 months, helped by a professional dealer network that spans over 35 countries.

"Sales at autumn shows worldwide form an important part of the annual order book and we are confident our current range, the most up-to-date in the entire industry, will continue to attract high demand."

The company launched two new models at the Cannes and Southampton boat shows last week.

It has already received more than 40 confirmed orders for the new Targa 44 model before its world debut and is seeing constant demand for its 11-boat range across the globe.

Fairline will now attend shows in Genoa, Fort Lauderdale, Barcelona, Annapolis, Paris, Athens and London, with a number of boats on display.

The company employs around 1,250 staff, of whom more than 1,000 build the boats.

This workforce comprises cabinet makers, mechanical and electrical engineers and fitters, in addition to those who take the individual fibreglass pieces and fit them together like a giant 3-D jigsaw to produce boats ranging in length from 38 feet to 78 feet and which carry a price tag from 250,000 to 2.5m.

As employee numbers have doubled over recent years, so too have the manufacturing sites in Oundle and Corby.

Factory space has increased to 400,000sq ft, and by the end of this year, a new 7.6 million, 65,000sq ft development is set to increase production capacity further.

Other developments include a new office block in the Oundle area to consolidate administration staff.
