Residents and staff at a Corby care home celebrated the national Dignity Day with fun events and pampering.

In the morning residents took on the roles of staff to give them a taste of life at Glenmoor House in Rockingham Road and in the afternoon there were pampering sessions where people enjoyed manicures and foot soaks.

Corby mayor Gail McDade paid a visit and planted a ‘dignity tree’ which was supplied by household goods store, The Range in Phoenix Parkway.

And residents wrote down their views on dignity which were put inside a big balloon which was sent into the air at the end of the day.

Activities co-ordinator at Glenmoor, Lee McCormick, said: “The aim was to raise awareness of the dignity of the elderly, which should be safeguarded all year round and not just on one day a year.

“Residents really enjoyed themselves and so did their families, guests and the staff.”

Glenmoor has 42 residents and its 54 staff also offer nursing care and specialist support for those with dementia.

Margaret Payne, the home’s manager, said: “The day helped our residents convey an important message – that each of us deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. It was a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together and celebrate.

“I know the event means a lot to all the staff and residents at the home.”

Staff at Glenmoor thanked the mayor, Kye Bishop of Corby Council, The Range and reiki therapist Tim Elliston for supporting the event.

The home was taken over by HC-One from Southern Cross in November.
