Danger road is still not fixed
Driving instructors are calling for work to be carried out on roads they feel are blighted by potholes.
The Wellingborough and District Driving Instructors Association (WADDIA) is still waiting for Northamptonshire County Council to act after promising to fix a residential road in Wellingborough.
More than nine months ago, WADDIA complained to the council about the serious deterioration of Henshaw Road, in Wellingborough, and the A509 near Isham.
The group was told by county council cheif executive Katherine Kerswell that repairs would be made to the two roads by the end of the summer 2009 – but no repairs have been carried out.
Chairman of WADDIA Ron Wicker said: "The many potholes and widespread damage presents real dangers to road users and pedestrians, with the potential for serious accidents.
"The recent bad weather has only made the atrocious road conditions worse.
"Road users and the emergency services are just expected to put up with the appalling road surfaces, paying for the damages and hoping their lives aren't put in further increased danger."
Michael Dazeley, committee member of WADDIA, has been a driving instructor for more than 35 years, and said: "A limited budget is the root of the problem, but the council isn't spending its money efficiently.
"The roads will take many years to fix properly, but the temporary measures aren't working."
A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said: "Re-surfacing work on the A509 south of Isham has been scheduled to take place in 2010-2011.
"We realise there is concern over the surface of Henshaw Road in Wellingborough. Work will soon be carried out by a gas company in the road which will require it to be dug up. Resurfacing work will take place after this."
