Crowds line the streets for Rowell Fair
People lined the streets of Rothwell this morning for the proclamation of the 805th Rowell Fair.
It all began at 6am, where the town's bailiff Robert Denton kicked off the event by reading the ancient charter at the parish church.
The crowds then followed Mr Denton, who was on horseback, and the marching band on the traditional tour around the town's pubs and sites of former pubs.
At each stop Mr Denton read the charter.
The proclamation ran from 6am to 7am, and afterwards many of the people who turned out headed to cafes, pubs and other eateries in the town to have breakfast.
Afterwards, Mr Denton said: "It's been a successful morning. We were a bit worried by the start of the rain but we have not had a wet hour between 6am and 7am since 1899. This morning thankfully lived up to that expectation."
Town mayor Alan Mills said: "There's no other town that does it this way."
