Couple are a hit with art lovers

A couple have managed to sell art produced in their front room to one of the richest men in the world.

Mark Coulson, 41, and Hannah Macleod, 38, started making art to decorate their own walls after moving into a house in Carlton Street, Kettering, but less than a year later they have sold pieces to a billionaire on the Forbes 100 rich list.

Another fan is Kevin Roberts, boss of global advertising company Saatchi and Saatchi, who has bought five pieces of the topography-based artwork.

Hannah said: "The two of us have very high expectations. We don't do anything by halves.

"When we started off we joked that we would follow in the steps of Terence Conran and open up a shop like Habitat.

"Our expectations keep on growing. One day I want to see on our website 'Milan, Tokyo, London,' alongside Kettering."

Since starting their own company, Coulson Macleod, last March, Hannah said turnover has doubled month on month.

Valentine's Day is a busy time and their front room is packed with bubble wrap as they try to get orders out in time.

The couple ship all over the world. They have a stockist in Oslo and have found reviews of their work in Mexican, Portuguese and Thai.

Hannah said: "I don't even know what they say. I hope they're good."

Despite the attention, they still judge the work by their own standards.

Hannah said: "Everything we design is something we would put on our own wall, otherwise it goes in the trash can.

"And it has to be something we can afford. We didn't plan to sell to billionaires. It's just nice that a billionaire has bought it."

Although it is their first experience making and selling art, Mark is a graphic designer and Hannah is a marketing executive so starting the company was easy.

When asked how long it would be before they were millionaires, Hannah replied: "Five years."

After buying several pieces Mr Roberts sent a handwritten letter saying: "The world needs entrepreneurs."
