Corby school is one of the best in England

One of our schools has been named one of the best in the country after being deemed outstanding across the board by Ofsted inspectors.

Danesholme Infants School, in Motala Close, Corby, was only one of four primary schools in the county to be named on the Government inspector Ofsted's annual list of the best schools.

The school was described as outstanding in 27 categories, including its ability to work in the community, developing socially responsible students and earning excellent exam results.

Headteacher Denise Durham said: "Often Corby gets a bad name and I have to defend it, but the children and parents here are so brilliant and supportive I have stayed here since 1988.

"We were so thrilled to have been named an outstanding school in every category in our Ofsted inspection – but we put it all down to teamwork.

"We have the kind of school that works together. Our students call us by our first names and we have a number of programmes in place to help promote healthy living."

The school received the news as it was preparing to open its new extension with a party for pupils, parents and staff.

Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education, Children's Services and Skills, Christine Gilbert, said: "It's encouraging to see so much outstanding provision across all areas of education and care and I pay tribute to all who contributed to this success.

"The number of outstanding providers has risen by 989 compared to last year."

Outstanding providers are given a distinctive 'outstanding' logo which they can use on documents and their website to communicate their achievement.

Five other county schools and colleges and seven nurseries were named in the report.
