Corby man seriously hurt after fall from ladder

A man was seriously injured after falling from a ladder at work.

Television installer Drew Harris, from Corby, has spent a month in a specilaist hospital unit in Oxford following the fall while he was working for a satellite television company.

At the weekend, his pals hosted a reunion charity event that helped raise cash for his family.

Former teammates of Mr Harris originally organised the charity football match at the Burghley Road playing fields to give a send-off to another player who is emigrating to Australia.

Mr Harris was meant to be playing in the Corby Flamingo's reunion match on Saturday.

But after Mr Harris was left with serious head injuries following the fall from his ladder while at work, the team decided to use the event to raise money to help pay for things including his family's travelling costs to hospital.

There are hopes that Mr Harris will be transferred to Kettering General Hospital from Oxford this weekend after spending four weeks in hospital.

He is now recovering from his injuries and his presence was missed at the game.

Mr Harris' cousin Gordon Anderson, who lives in Kettering, said they charged each player 10 to take part, which will go to Mr Harris' family.

He said: "Drew is a popular member of the team.

"We just thought it would be a good idea to raise money at the same time and I'm sure Drew's wife will be happy with any small amount that might help her."

The football team, which played together for 15 years before splitting in 2006, started out as Corby Euramax.

Organisers of the reunion match contacted former players through social network sites like Facebook to get them together for the farewell game for Patrick Mulgrove.

Some of the team hadn't seen each other in 10 years, including the former manager.

The game is expected to raise at least 300 for Mr Harris's family.
