Wonderful way to start Christmas

One of the greatest feel-good Christmas films ever will get everyone in the festive spirit next month.

The Pemberton Centre, in Rushden, is to screen the classic Christmas movie It's a Wonderful Life on Friday, December 18, to bring people together and get them in the Christmas mood.

Angela-Gaye Mallory-Starks, arts and heritage development manager at Cultural Community Partnerships which runs the leisure centre, said: "We have been screening films during the year to bring the community together and to give families something fun to do.

"It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favourite films and after a hard year a feel-good movie is just what people need to get them into the holiday mood.

"It's a classic film that everyone should have the opportunity to watch. It has a wonderful Christmas message and it's a cheap and sociable event."

It's a Wonderful Life is the ultimate feel-good film and stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a frustrated businessman who receives the greatest Christmas gift of all – to see what life would be like without him there.

Directed by Frank Capra, it boasts a superb cast including Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore and is an all-time Christmas favourite for many.

Brenda Phillips, of Newton Road, Rushden, is hoping to go along to watch the film.

She said: "I think it sounds like a very good idea. All the joy seems to have gone out of Christmas and this is something festive that adults and children can enjoy.

"I love films and I think it would be very nice to go and see it."

The event will run from 1.30pm to 5pm and costs 4 per person.

The admission price includes a drink and a mince pie.

Tickets are on sale at the Pemberton Centre or by calling 01933 350324. For more information call Angela on 07739 507442 or email agms@c-c-p.org.uk.
