Wellingborough groups hit National Lottery jackpot

Thousands of pounds of lottery cash has been awarded to two projects in the Wellingborough area.

Home-Start Wellingborough and District and Bozeat Parish Council are among the 35 groups and projects being awarded cash from a pot of 284,324 from the lottery's Awards for All programme.

Bozeat Parish Council has been given 10,000 to fund a research project looking at life in the village between 1914 and 1945 and the contribution made by villagers during the First World War and the Second World War.

And Home-Start Wellingborough and District has been given 4,911, which will be spent on recruiting and training volunteers.

Fred Dilley of Bozeat Parish Council said: "The project has been instigated by Jennifer and James Spencer from the parish council. We are trying to complete a resume of people involved in the two world wars.

"It's a difficult job. On our war memorial we have names – some we know, some we don't. It really would be nice to have some information on everyone who was involved. It's great we have the lottery money."

Janet Sanders from Home-Start Wellingborough said: "We are using the money to provide training for volunteers because we plan to increase our team of volunteers.

"The money will be used to recruit them through different forms of advertising. It will help us to get the materials and deliver training.

"It is also for some new equipment in the office for presentations.

"We endeavour to maintain a team of between 35 and 40 volunteers. This money will enable us to do that."

Home-Start Wellingborough gives home-based support and practical help to families with young children in the area.

Awards for All England is a joint Lottery grants programme supported by the Arts Council England, the Big Lottery Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England.
