Water way to have a birthday

It will be splashdown this weekend to celebrate the first birthday of Wicksteed Park's log flume.

The first anniversary of the opening of Rocky River Falls will give families a chance to have a ride with two tickets per person instead of three, which you usually have to use for a ride, on Saturday and Sunday.

Over the last year, about 200,000 people have ridden the water ride at the Kettering park, which has quickly became a firm favourite along with some of the park's other popular rides.

Arena manager Steve Marriott said: "We are very excited that the log flume has been so popular. Members of staff will be dressed up and I'm sure Wicky Bear will want to make an appearance on this special day."

When it opened last year, hundreds of people queued to ride the 500,000 attraction, which includes a 35ft plunge into a ravine of cascading water.

The idea for a log flume was put forward about five years ago when visitors to Wicksteed Park were asked to fill in a customer satisfaction questionnaire.

It took several years of planning and building before the grand opening.

The ride joined Wicksteed Park's water chute, which was one of three rides built 85 years ago by Charles Wicksteed.

Wicksteed Park is the oldest leisure park in the UK, having opened in 1921, and is owned by The Wicksteed Trust.

There are 35 rides and attractions, regular daytime and evening entertainment, plus a caravan and camping site during the summer.
