Tresham goes to top of the class

Tresham College is celebrating after being named the second best further education college in the country for student success rates.

A Government-sanctioned league table places all further education colleges in order of qualifications achieved by learners of all ages on all courses the college provides.

And Tresham, which has campuses in Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough, has been graded second in the Data Service's table for 2008-09 with a success rate of 85.4 per cent.

The Data Service is an independently-managed organisation funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Tresham principal Mark Silverman said: "I am extremely pleased with the achievements made by staff as a whole in recent years and our placing as second in the success rates league table out all the further education colleges in England is testament to their hard work.

"All staff are committed to ensuring that our learners receive a quality experience and achieve more at the college and with our success rates at 85.4 per cent we are pleased to have so many success stories leading to further study or employment.

"In July 2009 we unveiled a new strategic plan for the next five years and I am confident that the college, together with the exciting new campus in Corby, is on its way to achieving our ambition of being an outstanding college by 2014."

The college is now looking at ways of improving yet further.

Director of performance and standards Mike Welsh said: "At the start of each academic year we set targets for all staff to achieve to ensure that we maintain our standards and continue to improve each year.

"We are committed to ensuring all of our learners gain the best out of their learning experience and this is core to our strategic plan."
