Summer of sports is hailed a success

From ultimate frisbee sessions to athletics, summer sports projects in Corby are proving they are top of the league.

And hundreds of youngsters have been showing they're good sports by taking advantage of a range of schemes organised by Corby Council's sports development team.

So far children have enjoyed cricket and soccer sessions at West Glebe Park and cricket and gymnastics at Lodge Park Sports Centre.

And there's plenty more sporting fun on the agenda.

Corby Council's lead member for Community, Cllr John McGhee,

said: "Again this year we have put on a wide range of activities for the young people of Corby to enjoy over their summer and keep them

busy.

"The last couple of weeks youngsters have enjoyed sports, dance, arts, crafts and play.

"We have even had The Tate Movie Truck visit West Glebe Park and had around 1,000 people enjoy our National Play Day.

"All sessions and activities have been thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and our organisers are doing a fantastic job in providing exciting and new activities for free or affordable prices.

"We still have a lot of activities left to join and it's not too late to book a place."

Ultimate frisbee sessions, a new craze which is sweeping the country, are being offered every Thursday, from 4pm until 6pm.

The sessions are being held at West Glebe Park, Cottingham Road, are open to 11 to 16-year-olds and cost just 2.50.

This week a Star:Track Athletics programme for eight to 14-year-olds has been taking place at at Rockingham Triangle, Corby.

A disc golf scheme is also being held at West Glebe Park, from Monday, August 23, until Friday, August 27, from 10am until midday, for 12 to 15-year-olds. It costs 12.50 for five sessions.

To book a place at the ultimate frisbee or Star:Track Athletics sessions contact the council's sports development team on 01536 464047.
