Protesters use blimp to fight wind turbines
A PROTEST group launched a blimp over the weekend to demonstrate the blight of wind farms.
The Campaign to Limit Onshore Wind Farm Development is fighting against plans for nine wind turbines at Airfield Farm, Podington, by flying a blimp at 125 metres to show people in the surrounding villages the effect the wind farm would have on the landscape.
Campaign member Victoria Reeves, who lives in Hinwick, said: "The blimp was flown at the same height as the turbines would reach and we showed people what a blot they would be on our landscape.
"There was a terrific support, with lots of people voicing their approval for our protest.
"Hinwick is a conservation area where it is difficult to even get a satellite dish installed on a house, and we believe the council should refuse the planning application for the damage these inefficient power sources are going to do to our landscape."
The wind farm is being proposed by Nuon Renewables, which reduced its application from 15 to nine turbines after public consultation.
The blimp was flown near Hinwick on Saturday and at St Mary's Church, Podington, on Sunday.
Mrs Reeves added: "Imagine nine turbines, all four times as high as a church, blotting the landscape, and you can understand why we do not want even one of these monsters in our area."
