Man injured after racist attack

A man believed to be from Russia needed hospital treatment after being attacked in a racially-motivated assault.

The incident happened at about 4am on Sunday in Torridon Close, on the Shire Lodge estate, Corby.

The victim, who is aged 22, was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment for a jaw injury.

A police spokesman said the man, who lives in Corby, has now been allowed home from hospital.

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated assault.

The teenager has been released on police bail and police say they are conducting further inquiries into the incident.

A police spokesman said: "We had a report that a number of people were involved in a fight outside a house in Torridon Close.

"We believe that two or possibly more people were involved.

"As a result, a man ended up on the ground and was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

"The victim is from eastern Europe. We believe that he is of Russian origin."
