Lingerie firm reveals plan to expand to Kettering
Lingerie firm Eveden is committing its future to Northamptonshire and planning for expansion.
The company which owns popular high street brands Freya and Fantasie, is restructuring its Desborough factory, has bought a large new warehouse in Kettering and has recently taken over a French manufacturer, Huit.
Eveden is spending around 50,000 on the restructuring programme which will also streamline the production line at the Rothwell Road factory, while creating space for teams coping with increased demand.
The company is advertising a number of positions to bolster existing teams and ensure the company keeps expanding.
A company spokesman said: "We have purchased a new warehouse for the business based on the west side of Kettering at Garrard Way on the Telford Way Industrial Estate.
"This is a great opportunity to create the support infrastructure we need for the future and to continue to drive our service forward."
The unit is 21,000sq ft and the site is split into two 10,500sq ft chambers that can be linked together.
Due to the height of the building it is also feasible for a mezzanine floor to be installed which will take the operational floor space of each unit to 15,000sq ft and each chamber will have more space than we have in the current Kettering site.
Plans are being put into place to make the site operational and the target for that will be January of next year.
The company posted worldwide sales of 69m in 2009 and has experienced a 7.8 per cent growth rate in 2010. This means it has posted a growth in profits year on year throughout the recession.
Chief executive officer Tracy Lewis, said: "This shows our commitment to the local area and is evidence that UK businesses can develop great product that has appeal in both the home and export markets. Back in April, we also purchased the French brand Huit, which now cements our position as one of the leading lingerie businesses in the world.
"Despite global economic pressures our priority is to remain as productive and competitive as possible and keep improving the work environment for all of our valued teams."
About 280 staff work at the Desborough factory, while a similar number also work at Eveden Timex, the company's shared manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka,
The factory's current warehouse sends out approximately 500,000 units per month. Eveden also has a warehouse in the US, which supports the North American business.
The acquisition of Huit in April has rounded off the company's global offering.
Tracy said: "The Huit brand complements our existing portfolio of fuller bust and full figure brands and allows us to expand our customer base to offer all women from an A to a K cup fabulous style lingerie and swimwear, expertly designed especially for her."
The Rothwell Road Corsetry Factory dates back to the 1890s. Eveden has occupied it since 1989, but the company was established in 1920 and the last 15 years or so has seen a much bigger focus on the market for larger bra cup sizes.
