Is this the worst road in county?

Is Studfall Avenue in Corby the worst road in the county?

That is the question residents are asking after an investigation revealed the stretch of road had 94 holes, 22 cracks, 16 uneven and raised manholes and 17 damaged speed bumps.

Results showed 149 flaws in the East Lloyds estate road, as well as about 40 old pot holes crudely filled in.

Now we're asking our readers to tell us if Studfall Avenue is the most pot-holed road in north Northamptonshire, or if there are any that are worse.

East Lloyds resident and long-distance lorry driver David Stallard said: "I've had to have two exhausts replaced and two new tyres from driving on this road.

"Corby is the worst town in Northamptonshire and Studfall is terrible.

"The speed bumps are falling apart and they ruin your car.

"When the council comes and fills in the pot holes with Tarmac, the Tarmac sinks and creates a pot hole.

"The ice and snow just made everything worse and completely messed the road up.

"I drive all over Europe and this area is one of the worst for pot holes.

"I pay my road fund licence and the tax on my fuel and as far as I'm concerned, that should help pay for the roads to be kept in a good condition, but they're not."

Cllr Mark Pengelly recently called for action to tackle the pot holes on Studfall Avenue.

He said: "Tansfield Grove and Studfall Avenue need urgent, immediate work.

"Parts of East Lloyds which have been patched need to be replaced."

The county council is asking the Government for extra money to repair roads damaged in the extreme winter weather.

In a report which he will deliver to the full council on Tuesday, April 21, council leader Jim Harker puts the case for the Government to provide more money.

He says: "The extreme weather has had a damaging effect on our roads and pavements. We are currently lobbying to central government for extra funds to undertake emergency repairs as well as long-term planned maintenance and improvement."

Cllr Harker said the quality of the county's roads was a priority for the county council.
