Hundreds of homes in pipeline for Corby
Plans for two major housing developments are in the pipeline – despite the economic gloom.
Proposals for 750 homes at Priors Hall, Corby, and 250 houses at Oakley Vale, in the town, have been lodged with Corby Council.
The plans come after North Northants Development Company (NNDC) put a 53m bid in to the Government for funding to kickstart Corby's housing market.
NNDC's director of investment and marketing, Nick Bolton, said: "It's important to get to this stage so that we can move forward very quickly.
"We're hoping to get an indication about whether we've got through to the next stage of the funding process very soon."
A detailed planning application has been submitted by Bela Partnership Limited for 750 houses, associated parking, access and public spaces at Stamford Road, Weldon.
Places for People has put in a bid for 250 homes at the Lyveden Way site in Oakley Vale. This scheme includes a mix of three bedroom semi-detached and four, five and six bedroom houses.
Another plan for 146 houses in Lincoln Way, on the Kingswood estate, Corby, has recently been given permission. It is hoped the regeneration of these areas could create up to 2,000 jobs.
A wide range of ownership arrangements will be made available to make housing accessible and affordable during the economic difficulties.
Lead member for regeneration on Corby Council, Jimmy Noble, said: "We really welcome the progress.
"Priors Hall has been in the making for a long time and it will be great to see something started there.
"If we build as much as possible this will create confidence in people.
"Planning applications have gone in and hopefully we can get started soon."
