Gymnast Zoe to train with hero
Eight-year-old gymnast Zoe Parker has won the chance to train with Olympian Daniel Keatings.
Zoe will learn from the Gymnastics World Championship silver medallist as well as having four tickets to see him compete at the European Gymnastic Championships.
The youngster, who trains in Kettering, said: "I am so excited about my training session with Daniel and I get to see him compete at the European Championships, too. He is a very good gymnast and I hope I can learn some new techniques from him to help with my gymnastics."
Zoe trains at Kettering Olympic Gymnastics club and entered the competition run by Daniel's sponsors Opus Energy.
Daniel has just come back from having two dislocated fingers to be selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships.
The former Danesholme Junior and Kingswood school pupil, said: "I am looking forward to meeting Zoe.
"It's good to know I can help young gymnasts, through opportunities such as these, to achieve their aspirations to become a professional athlete.
"The preparations for the Europeans have been tough. The whole team has been working really hard and hopefully we will get a place on the podium for the first time as a team at a major championship."
After earning Britain's best ever finish in decades at the World Championships last year, Daniel should hopefully be one of the athletes competing at the London 2012 Olympics.
Zoe's senior club coach, Marie Mitchell, said: "We are delighted that Opus Energy has created this fantastic opportunity that will inspire young gymnasts to excel in the sport.
"The club is thrilled at having an Olympic standard gymnast, such as Daniel run a training session with Zoe."
Kettering Olympic Gymnastics club, which trains at Brunel Close in Kettering, also has a national gymnast in the ranks.
Rebecca Purcell has trained with the England squad, and is part of the current Northamptonshire squad.
