Corby rail station on track to open by Christmas

The Department of Transport has said plans are still on track for trains to be leaving Corby station by December.

The Government organisation is still thrashing out the details for the timetable to be drawn up by East Midlands Trains, which will be running the service, but has said the plan is to have the service in place for the end of the year.

Banners have gone up at the site to remind Corby residents they will be able to travel to the capital from the town in the near future.

Contractors are on site in Station Road putting in infrastructure.

A spokesman for the department said: "Ourselves and East Midlands Trains are continuing discussions. We will make an announcement as soon as we have come to a decision."

Network Rail will be putting together the station later this year once the infrastructure works have been completed.

The station will be the only one of its kind in the country. The modular kit will take only a few weeks to assemble.

Regeneration bosses and Corby Council is hoping the station will run a direct hourly line to the capital.

However, it is thought the Corby service could have an impact on services running from Kettering to the north.
