Christmas decorations are already on display

It may be more than 100 days until Christmas but pubs and shops across the county are already busy preparing for a hectic festive period.

The Christmas trees and tinsel are already out on display at The Tradiing Post in Kettering, where staff have been busy promoting their Christmas meals for the past few weeks.

In supermarkets, aisles of festive gifts are also on sale.

Julie John, has been the manager of the Trading Post with her husband for more than 10 years.

She said: "Every year it seems to get earlier and earlier.

"But what can you do, we're a profession where we have to start advertising for things like Christmas quite early.

"If we don't, our competitors will and we are all looking for the business.

"We have already had quite a lot of interest from people about coming for Christmas meals and I think it is partly because we had our refurbishment last year and people want to come back."

The pub currently has a small Christmas tree, tinsel and a festive board giving details of their offers.

Mrs John said: "Personally, I think it is too early.

"We try to do a lot for Halloween and it is strange to be celebrating that while having Christmas decorations up.

"The staff feel the same but they're used to it."

People agreed that Christmas was being advertised too early in shops and pubs.

Peter White, of Barnwell Street, Kettering said: "It does come too early.

"When things are in the shops in September it spoils it when the time does come around.

"A fortnight before Christmas I think is ample time."

Alison Starner, of Larkwood Close in Kettering agreed.

She said: "It's getting more and more commercialised.

"It's difficult when you have kids because as soon as they see things in the shops you start getting the words 'I want' all of the time."
