Corby steelworkers could vote on industrial action
Steelworkers in Corby may be asked to vote for industrial action if a union decides to hold a ballot.
However, Ray Rodden, an employee at the Corby works, said a nationwide strike by Tata Corus steelworkers in protest against the mothballing of the company's Teesside plant would be counterproductive.
The GMB and Community Unions have already announced votes for their members on the question in the next few weeks.
But Mr Rodden said if his union Unite has a ballot, he and some of his colleagues will not support industrial action.
He said: "It will do more harm than good to the company.
"We went through this in Corby in the 1980s. We all thought Corby would die then. But we are now a thriving town with a new swimming pool and the Corby Cube.
"There is still a future for people when this happens. Corby proved this."
