Corby is top of the shops

Shoppers are delighted with new stores in Corby town centre.

Surveys have revealed shopper satisfaction ratings have soared since Willow Place opened its doors in October last year.

The questionnaires were undertaken on behalf of town centre owners and managers Land Securities.

The average satisfaction score reached 78 per cent in the independent survey carried out during early spring – about double that of previous results, an achievement described by the firm which carried out the survey as 'remarkable'.

Areas rated include cleanliness, customer service, ease of access, security, choice of shops and atmosphere.

The latest figures show that shoppers are spending longer in the centre and are visiting more often, compared with the average for other Land Securities shopping centres.

Non-food purchases have also risen and are the highest seen to date.

Average spend shows a significant rise, bucking the downward trend seen in previous surveys.

The report by Business Blueprint concluded: "A remarkable improvement in shopper satisfaction has moved Corby from 'tail-end Charlie' to a very creditable score."

Helen Rainsford, who recently succeeded Mark Rymell as development manager for Corby, said: "This huge improvement in satisfaction levels is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the centre director and his team.

"Despite the fact that the economy has taken a downturn and retailers everywhere are feeling the pinch, Corby seems to be bucking the trend.

"This certainly bodes well for the future as we look to increase our investment in the town centre through our ambitious EvolutionCorby proposals."

Meanwhile, Land Securities has concluded a deal with top fashion retailer Primark for the large vacant unit opposite TK Maxx in Willow Place. Fitting-out of the store is due to begin shortly and the new store is expected to open in the autumn.

Shopper Elizabeth Eastwood, 49, of Rockingham Road, Corby, said: "I think the town's going to be brilliant when it's finished. People will come to Corby rather than going to Kettering."
