Charity walk set to be a family affair

Three generations of a family are among those getting ready to take part in the Crazy Hats sponsored walk next month.

Mandy Miller and her team - who range in age from 62 to two years old - will be taking part in the walk for the first time.

The team is made up of Mandy, her father Stuart, husband Graeme, sons Josh, 10, and Aiden, four, and her two-year-old daughter Lexie.

The group is among hundreds who have already signed up for the walk, which takes place at Wicksteed Park in Kettering, on Sunday, March 21.

Mrs Miller, who lives in Corby, said the group signed up to the walk after donations were made to charity at her mother's funeral.

It was decided to donate the cash to Crazy Hats and when Mrs Miller visited the charity's Wellingborough office to drop the cash off, its founder Glennis Hooper managed to talk her into entering the walk.

Mrs Miller said: "I am looking forward to it, it's good the whole family can go.

"I walk up to school and back every day so it will be a bit further than that. We will see how it goes doing a steady pace."

Mrs Miller works as a driving instructor and said she will be putting her sponsorship form in her car in a bid to collect sponsors in the run-up to the walk.

More than 300 people have signed up to take part in the walk and Crazy Hats, which provides support for breast cancer patients, is hoping to top the 3,000 mark.

Miss Hooper said: "We have more than 300 people signed up now and we've been getting a lot of phone calls so I think people are realising it's only a few weeks away. We have had a good percentage of entries from people taking part for the first time, so the potential is good.

"There's a long way to go yet but what we are saying to people is get your entries in so we can work towards final numbers."

Entry to the walk is 5 for adults and 3.50 for under-16s.

Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry forms can be downloaded at www.crazyhatsbreastcancerappeal.co.uk, or call 01933 442999.
