Carnival mood is growing in town

The finishing touches are being put to parade floats ahead of tomorrow's 101st Wellingborough Carnival.

About 10,000 people turned out for last year's party weekend to marked the carnival's centenary – and organisers are hoping for another success this year.

The procession will be led by carnival queen Louise Mullally and princesses Jessica Findlay and Lavone Thomas.

Tomorrow's parade will start at 1pm at Broad Green and will go around the town centre to High Street, Church Street, Market Street and on to Midland Road, Castle Way, Sheep Street, Silver Street, Oxford Street, Northampton Road and into Kingsway, where participants will then walk into Croyland Park.

Parade entries will be judged on route and the parade is due to arrive at the park at 1.45pm.

Carnival committee member and event manager Sue Bull said: "The parade floats are almost ready and bunting is being put up in the town and it's looking very jolly.

"We hope both days are going to be excellent, we want people to come down, relax and enjoy the performances.

"We've got all sorts of activities taking place. The funfair has arrived and we've got a great line up."

Tomorrow will also feature a showcase by town music and drama group ScreenIdolz from midday, a display by Wellingborough Tae Kwon-do Club and a performance by Pop Blast.

There will also be the judging of majorette troupes and a performance by a mountain bike stunt team.

On Sunday the Party in the Park will begin at midday at Croyland Park. Legend, a tribute to Bob Marley, will open the show and there will be performances from Pop Blast, performance poet Rob Gee, street dancers, The Deportees and the Dolly Rockers.

The Dolly Rockers, who release their first single in August, are currently causing a buzz in the music world, having been featured in the Observer Music Monthly, News of the World and by celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton.

An exhibition of photographs from past carnivals is on show at Wellingborough Museum until July 18.
