Cadets recognised after record fundraiser
The Royal British Legion Wellingborough board of trustees member Bill Parkin presents the Poppy Appeal Cadet Shield to Kettering Air Cadets corporal Emily Walmsley, cadet Robert Smith and Chris Ombisi at the Kettering Conservative Club.
A town’s branch of the air cadets has been praised after a record year of fundraising.
Kettering Air Cadets managed to raise almost £1,400 for the Poppy Appeal last year.
Their efforts were rewarded when they received the Poppy Appeal cadet shield at Kettering Royal British Legion’s AGM last Monday.
The cadets’ fundraising contributed to a record haul in 2011 for Kettering Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The air cadets had 56 members out on the streets helping to raise money last year.
Kettering Air Cadets’ commanding officer Guy Slack said: “It has been such a great effort from everyone at Kettering Air Cadets last year and I’m so proud of their achievements.
“It was a lovely ceremony on Monday night and I hope we can take it on to the next level this year and raise even more.
“The townsfolk of Kettering have been brilliant with donations.
“It’s never about getting a trophy at the end of it, but getting recognised makes it all worthwhile.”
