Burger King to open in Corby town centre

A new Burger King is to open in Corby town centre, creating 30 new jobs.

Burger King has submitted a planning application to open a restaurant in a huge empty unit in Willow Place.

It means there are only two remaining vacant units in the shopping centre, the highest occupancy rate since it opened two-and-a-half years ago.

The jobs will include 15 full-time and 15 part-time positions.

The restaurant will spread over two floors and will include an outdoor seating area. It will be in the vacant unit opposite Cafe Con Leche in Queen's Square.

Town centre manager Daniel Pickard said: "They will be opening up as soon as they are through the planning process. It's great news again for Corby town centre. We're doing really well, despite the recession.

"We are also hoping to have some positive news about the remaining empty units next to Primark soon."

Since the recession began, Corby has seen a glut of new store openings while other town centres have floundered.

It has a new Ethel Austin, Au Naturale, Crazy Udder, Cafe Con Leche bistro, two new hairdressers', a Select clothing store, two mobile phone shops and a key cutting and shoe repair store.

Laurence McGill, 28, from Steyning Close, Corby, said: "I think it's a great place for Burger King because of all the open space around it for seats.

"It will be really nice to sit outside in the summer."
