Biker is seriously injured in crash

A MOTORCYCLIST suffered serious head injuries after he collided with a brick wall.

The 22-year-old man, from Higham Ferrers, was riding on his blue and white Honda CBR 125 motorcycle along Duck Street, Rushden, when he mounted the kerb.

He hit the brick wall next to the Railway Inn and was initially taken to Kettering General Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Oxford for treatment to head injuries which have been described by police as serious.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We’ve already had some people come forward with information about the collision but we are still keen to speak to any motorists who were in the vicinity of Duck Street at that time and who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen the motorcyclist prior to the collision.”

The collision happened at about 7.50pm on Wednesday and is not believed to have involved any other vehicles.

The road was closed for several hours following the collision and some passers-by said about four police cars and an ambulance attended the scene.

Cesare Marinaro, who owns Pizzeria Venezia in the town centre and is a member of the town council, said: “I took a customer home about 10.40pm and the road was closed off and when I went home about 11.30pm it was still shut. There was a big crane there and a couple of police cars and I assumed something awful had happened. All our thoughts go out to the young man and his family – we just hope he’s going to be alright.”

Anyone with information should call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.
