Awards for those who help others

PROJECTS which make life better for residents in Northamptonshire were recognised at an awards ceremony last night.

Representatives of 30 county organisations were honoured at the Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s annual awards at Cripps Hall in Northampton.

Three of the six trophy winners were projects in Corby – Adrenaline Alley, the Bridge Substance Misuse Programme and the Late Developers Photographic Group.

Organisations that improve life for people of all ages were shortlisted for awards after receiving funding from the foundation in 2007/08.

Fund development manager for the foundation Jessica Pilkington said: “A huge congratulations to everyone who was nominated and particularly to the winners.

“We have distributed more than 3.5m in grants to over 1,100 groups since our launch in 2002 and these awards are our chance to recognise and reward those that have proved themselves particularly exceptional and life-changing.

“Northamptonshire Community Foundation has funding to distribute to local groups who most need it. We are the charity of choice for potential fundraisers, donors and the county’s business community.”

More than 200 people packed out the hall and enjoyed entertainment from a 100-strong choir and 20-strong drumming group, as well as from a group of tap dancers.

Among the nominations from north Northamptonshire in the six categories was the East Northants Volleyball Club, which received 1,825 from the foundation for improving equipment and training facilities.

The HART group from Corby was shortlisted in the “creating communities category” after receiving 667.60 to buy a new sound system for the hard of hearing.

Ingredients 4 Health in Kettering, which supports young parents and families on a low income on the Highfield and Croyland estates, also had representatives at the event.

Kettering Community Supported Agriculture, which sells organic vegetables, was also nominated for the “healthy living” section.

Northamptonshire Community Foundation offers grants and seeks funding from donors and supporters.
