Autumn open date for health centre
Contracts director Sean Yeo and interim chairman of Corby Healthcare Dr Peter Wilczynski look at the steelwork on the new Urgent Care Centre with leader of Corby Council Tom Beattie
A new urgent care centre for Corby is on target to open in the autumn.
The £3.2m centre at the Willowbrook Health complex, in Cottingham Road, reached a milestone this week when the steel framework of the building was completed.
Corby Urgent Care Centre will bring together the existing Lakeside Plus Walk-In services and the minor injuries unit in the Nuffield Diagnostic Centre.
Dr Peter Wilczynski, interim chairman of Corby Healthcare, said: “It’s been exciting to watch the steelwork go up week by week, so we’re delighted to mark this milestone in the development of the new centre.
“Corby Urgent Care Centre is significant as the first stage of the development of the Willowbrook Health Complex, giving Corby people the high quality healthcare services they deserve.
“The building work has been going smoothly and there has been relatively little disruption for patients and staff.”
The centre, due to open in October, will provide a single point of access to urgent care services, a range of diagnostics including an X-ray department with extended opening hours and short-term observation bays, reducing the need to travel to Kettering General Hospital.
The project is a joint scheme by Corby Healthcare Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire, Lakeside Surgery and Corby Council.
Leader of Corby Council Tom Beattie said: “We are very pleased with the development of the Corby Urgent Care Centre and are excited to see it take shape.
“It will give residents top- quality health care right here on their doorstep.”

Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 08:08 PMWell said Comedian. I've been at that surgery all my life. I've seen the whole complex develop into what it is today, and am well happy with what it offers and always have been.. The only blimp I've had in all my years there was when I was seen by an - how shall I put this - an 'african speaking' Dr, who didnt even understand me. On leaving his room I went straight to reception and booked another appointment.

Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 11:00 AMI am not surprised to hear so much moaning about Lakeside(particularly lakeside plus) on here as its' all we hear from other people when my wife and I are waiting at the surgery .But IMHO you lot don't know you are born. When ever we explain the service that we get from Lakeside to our friends and relatives in Kettering,Rushden and further a field most simply refuse to believe that we can either get an appointment at the same day clinic,or even just walk in and be seen.We have several young children and so over the last 5 or 6 years we have been at the surgery or used other facilities on the site on an almost monthly basis, and we have found it to provide an excellent although imperfect service, one that I would not swap for all the whiskey in Ireland. If people are that bothered about how poor our NHS is then I suggest that you give private healthcare a try,and then you will really see how good the NHS is.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 10:51 AMIf the expansion of Lakeside, i.e amalgamating surgerys and services, is a fore-taste of the NHS reforms that are being proposed by this government then I for one certainly oppose these changes. The bigger lakeside practice has become the harder it is to see your regular doctor. I for one dont want to have to see "practice nurses" instead of a doctor and a different doctor (if you're lucky) each time I have to visit, which is what is happening now. I recently had the misfortune to have to use the emergency appointment system and to say it was a nightmare was putting it mildly. After an hour and a half I came out feeling worse than when I went in. It was one cock up after another and a complete cattle market of sick adults and children. What is happening to lakeside at present isnt progress, its a backward step in that it is now harder to access Quality Health Care we used to receive before these "improvements" started

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 01:55 PMI agree with corby chick that it is very hard to get a doctors appointment at the Lakeside practise, especially since the merger with Forest gate surgery. Lets hope that the urgent care centre is every bit as good as they say it is going to be.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 01:04 PMI sincerely hope the service provided at the urgent care centre is significantly better than Lakeside 8-8. The waiting times are awful and the nurse led service is just a cheap way of treating patients. Doctors appointments are very hard to come by at Lakeside and Forest Gate. "Quality Health Care" - we'll wait and see.
