A loving farewell to popular Charlotte
KETTERING. FUNERAL Funeral of Charlotte 'Lottie' Filer.
A cheeky but charming and lovable teenager whose short life was tragically cut short was given a fitting send off by family and friends yesterday.
Charlotte Filer, 17, was carried to her funeral at Kettering Crematorium in a white coffin by her family yesterday.
Floral tributes spelt out “Our baby girl Charlotte” while her brothers wore Liverpool Football Club shirts with “Baby sister” on the back.
More than 150 mourners cried and hugged as Missing You by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans was played as she was taken from the hearse into the chapel.
Charlotte’s brothers Dan and Aaron were joined by her mother Jackie Filer and step-father Alan Black among the mourners. They were also joined by dozens of students from Kettering Buccleuch Academy and Tresham College.
Inside there were not enough seats and people stood in the chapel aisles and in the foyer. Many wore pink scarfs, shoes, lipstick and ties.
Charlotte, also known as Lottie, died when the car she was in crashed near Grafton Underwood on January 10.
Driver Ryan Kirk, 19, also died at the scene.
The funeral was led by Deni Darke, of Jack Warwick Funeral Directors, who began by welcoming people before describing Charlotte through the words of her family.
She also paid tribute to the hairdressing student who enjoyed Disney films and street dancing.
Charlotte, who was born in Chippenham in Wiltshire, moved to Kettering eight years ago but was quick to make a large group of friends.
Ms Darke said: “She has gone from all your lives too soon but she will never be forgotten and will live on in your memories as a vibrant, charming and cheeky girl. She was a baby girl who so loved her life. Be glad you knew her.”
Poems were read by Charlotte’s two close friends and step father Alan.
You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers was played, as it was at Ryan’s funeral. To finish the service Riding Solo by Jason Derulo was played.
At Ryan’s funeral, Charlotte’s family left a message asking him to look her.
Yesterday, Ryan’s family left a note saying: “Heaven has another angel.
“Ryan will take care of you.”
