£7m building to set 'eco standard'
A new £7 million building to be built in a Northamptonshire town is to set the standard for energy efficiency and sustainable design.
Construction of the iCon building in Daventry, due to start in the summer, will be under guidance introduced earlier this year by the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) and will be a demonstration of best practice in sustainable construction.
Funded by the East Midlands Development Agency, the European Regional Development Fund and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation, the building will be constructed on land donated by Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council, and forms part of a wider programme for the regeneration of Daventry town centre.
The JCT's guidance requires the contractor to use materials and methods which improve environmental performance and sustainability, including reductions in waste, energy consumption, mains water consumption, CO2 emissions and materials from non-renewable sources.
