Pupils from Rushden Community College are pictured with a sign which they helped to create for the new Greenway Cycle route.

The route, which opened last March, runs along a former railway line from The Ferrers Arts College in Higham Ferrers, to Crown Park industrial estate in Rushden.

Groundwork Northamptonshire co-ordinated a project to create the new ‘interpretation board’ signs to be installed along the route.

Staff worked alongside the youngsters from Rushden Community College, as well as pupils from Ferrers Arts College and young people from Irthlingborough youth group, during the creative process.

The boards are designed to inform and educate people about the environment around them.

Groundwork project officer Laura Long said: “The purpose of The Greenway is to provide a safe off-road walking and cycle route which is accessible to wheelchair users and pushchairs, to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce car usage, providing safer routes to schools.”
