Nursery settles in after quick move

A nursery which had to move quickly after asbestos was found at its former premises has thanked everyone for their help.
Brats Day Nursery in Corby was forced to leave its base in the St Mark’s Business Centre, in the town, just before Christmas when the asbestos was discovered.
It re-opened on January 9 at new premises on the first floor of Grosvenor House in George Street, Corby, and the children, aged three months to five years, and staff have now settled in.
The nursery had to move within hours of the asbestos being discovered during routine checks of the building and had to leave most of its equipment behind.
Parents came to the rescue and donated toys and equipment for its 46 youngsters to use.
Nursery manager Kerry McClymont said: “Corby Council and our parents were really supportive. Parents donated toys and everyone rallied round. We also received some equipment from Squirrels Day Nursery in Corby.
“We are really grateful for all the help and support people have given us.
“Everyone has settled in really well and the children and parents are very happy with the new accommodation. We don’t know when we will be able to move back to St Mark’s Business Centre, it may be some time in the summer.”
The new premises, which have been approved by Ofsted, provide six areas for staff and children, including sections for role play, babies and toddlers and dining.
The bill for moving the nursery, charity Furniture Turnaround and five small businesses from the business centre and to clear asbestos from the building is set to cost £230,000.
It will be met from the council’s capital receipts, which includes borrowing and grants it receives. It is being paid with funding which was available to spend on Corby’s new Enterprise Centre, but which was not needed.
