A schoolboy from Irchester will show off his dancing skills when he competes as part of a team in the live semi-finals of Sky One’s Got To Dance.
Eleven-year-old Nathaniel Pearce, or Nat as he prefers to be called, is a member of the Bedfordshire-based street dance group Kazzum.
The group of eight boys, all aged 11 and 12, have beaten off stiff competition from more than 3,000 other acts to become one of the show’s 30 semi-finalists by impressing judges Adam Garcia, Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo, and former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.
The group is already the reigning UK street dancing champions for their age division, and they are hoping to scoop the £250,000 first place prize money and add the Got to Dance title to their list of accolades.
They will be dancing in Sunday’s night’s live semi-final, hosted by presenter Davina McCall, which will be screened at 6pm.
A public phone vote will decide who gets through to next week’s live final.
The boys have spent this week drumming up support for their big night. As part of their promotional tour, they visited Nat’s school, Irchester Primary School, yesterday where they performed a medley of street dancing routines to his fellow pupils.
Nat said: “I am excited about the weekend, but I’m also a bit nervous. It has been fun taking part in the competition and meeting Kimberley, Adam and Ashley. I like Adam because he is an awesome tap dancer.
“I like dancing because it’s fun and I like dancing with the group.”
Headteacher Julia Alison said: “The rest of the school is fully behind them. We are all very proud of them and we wish them every success. It’s great to see boys dancing.”
The group’s leader and choreographer, 16-year-old Ed Jones, of Harrold, was praised for his routines during the auditions by street-dancing king, Banjo.
The teenager said: “I started teaching about three years ago. I have been training the group really hard and I decided to put them up for this competition.”
Dance school manager Steph Massey said: “Ed came to me last year to ask if they could take part in Got To Dance. They got through to the final 30 from 3,000 acts. Adam Garcia said the group were rambunctious, and Nat actually chatted Kimberly up and made her blush.”
