They even know what I'm thinking!
With our 40th birthdays getting closer and closer, my friends and I have decided that we'll go to London for the weekend some time next year.
It was all decided about a year ago, and since then we've been paying money into a kitty to make sure that we have enough for when we do actually make our trip.
Unfortunately, about nine months ago I forgot about the kitty (well actually I didn't forget – I just found loads of stuff in Primark that I had to buy instead).
So now it turns out that I owe twice as much as everyone else, but unless I want to walk to London and sleep on the streets, I guess I'll have to do it.
My friends and I got together for a chat recently and of course our London weekend came up.
My friend Claire is in charge of organising our trip and has acquired lots of lists, notes, numbers and goodness knows what else.
She even has a printed itinerary of every single aspect of our trip – right down to what time we'll be eating and what kind of sight-seeing we'll be doing.
Listening to the planned activities, I was starting to get concerned that I would have no time for shopping or yoga classes.
How could I go to London and not take part in my two most favourite things? Without mentioning that I wanted to skip off to a yoga class, I casually inquired: "Do we have to do everything together, or will we have some time on our own too?" My friends told me in no uncertain terms that we most certainly had to stick together, otherwise what was the point in going? True enough, but as we got to the part of the itinerary that involved a trip to the London Eye, I saw my chance of escape.
My mind racing, I was envisioning a quick trip to Tri-Yoga, and getting back to the Eye before the girls had even noticed I'd gone. My plans were quietly taking shape when all of a sudden I saw my friend Helen staring at me. "Don't think for a minute that you're sneaking off to a yoga class", she said, without me even saying a word.
Wow, I've always acknowledged that my friends know me well, but now they're reading my thoughts too. That's definitely scary, and means I'll have to think much quieter in future, or else I could get myself in trouble!
