So ill that we are now Top Gear fans
For the past six months we've had nothing but illness in this house.
The problem is that my daughter picks up all sorts of bugs and germs at school, then passes them along to us.
That's bad enough, but whenever she gets a cold she also gets an ear infection too, which means she's in and out of school like a broken down yo-yo.
Recently she brought home a very bad cold, which was immediately passed along to my husband.
When my daughter finally went back to school, my poor hubby was signed off work for three weeks as the cold turned into a throat infection, which quickly went septic and spread through his body.
It was very worrying I must say, made even worse when he had to go through tests for some pretty gruesome illnesses. Thankfully they all came back negative and he is now on the mend.
However, having an ill husband in the house all day was not an easy task.
First there was the worry of him being ill, but harder than that was the fact that in the entire time he was home, he kept the remote under tight control and programmes such as Stargate, Ray Mears and Top Gear were in constant demand.
The most worrying thing about this situation was that after three weeks of watching them, I found myself being slowly drawn in. While I will never be a fan of Stargate, I did find myself suddenly taking notice of Ray Mears and listening to his tips for how to save myself when I'm next confronted by a bear.
Even more scary than that was the discovery that I am a closet Top Gear fan.
I've never, ever wanted to watch it before, but now I'm completely hooked!
Watching Jeremy Clarkson & Co. making fools of themselves all in the name of research is fascinating, and I hate to say it but even after my husband went back to work, I found myself craving it – and I don't even like cars!
I asked my friends what they thought about this Top Gear obsession and they assured me it was all quite normal; acceptable even.
So with that in mind I'm going to wrap this column up now, as it's coming on in five minutes and today they're travelling to Iceland and talking to Tim Rice….. Oh dear, if I'm happy to announce my excitement about that, I know I really do have a problem!
