Pizza peril at the girls' party time

My daughter decided she wanted a few friends over for tea.

Wanting them all to have a good time, I popped out to buy pizza, chicken nuggets, and cup-cakes, but made a huge mistake when I opted for a pizza loaded with sweetcorn, peppers and other goodies.

Of course none of the girls liked the veggies at all, (and it certainly didn't help that I had burnt half of it during an impromptu 80s disco with the party girls) so the pizza got pushed to one side in favour of the chicken nuggets.

Unfortunately my daughter accidentally dropped most of them on the floor, meaning the rest of the girls had one nugget each and hardly anything else at all. "That's totally crazy, man", stated my daughter, while one of the other girls nodded her head and declared the whole thing, "completely wild."

While I was sent back to the kitchen to rustle up more food, the girls settled down to watch a DVD.

Unfortunately, my daughter decided to put on the Bratz Sleepover Party, which (according to my daughter), has some "great scary monsters in it."

She thought this was terrific, but the two little guests weren't so thrilled.

"Monsters?" they both asked in unison.

"Yep", replied my daughter, "it's well scary!"

With the girls looking on in horror, I decided that I'd rather upset my daughter than her friends and parents, and opted to turn on a tame cartoon instead. This did not go down well with my daughter, who made it clear that she was not going to forget my audacity in a hurry. Just as things started to settle down, one of the little girls fell off her chair, onto the floor. Thank goodness she only fell about a foot, and it was onto soft carpet, but for the rest of the evening it was cushions all round, for fear of any more casualties.

When the tea-party guests left, I faced the wrath of my daughter for turning off her favourite film, and also the mess in not just her bedroom, but the playroom and living room too. That done I sat down for a cup of tea and a nibble of left-over pizza.

As a piece of charred pepper fell onto my lap, I had to admit that the girls were right; the pizza was absolutely awful.

Next time I'll stick to plain cheese pizza for them, and a headache tablet for me.
