My daughter made me feel like a teenager

My daughter has become obsessed with teenagers. Every day she asks the same questions: "Is Scooby Doo a teenager?" "Is Tommy the hamster a teenager?" "Is mummy a teenager? "And what about Grandma?"

When we're out on the street she asks constantly if people walking by are teenagers. Then if she sees a boy and girl cuddling that really makes her day.

"Oooh, teenagers getting romantic!" she shouts as we walk past.

Of course she is desperate to know when she'll become a teenager, but I doubt she will actually enjoy it half as much as she thinks she will.

I think girls have a harder time than boys, what with all those hormones and goodness knows what else.

I remember being so silly too and always falling out with my friends. Girls seem to argue with their friends a lot more than boys.

Boys fight, get it all out in the open and then move on, whereas girls argue, fall out, take sides, talk about each other, then shed a million tears before finally making up. It's a nightmare.

Then there's all the falling out you do with your parents. I remember constantly being in battle with my parents because they would not let me stay out until midnight; would not let me go out without a coat in the middle of December; and insisted my dad would be there to pick me up from every single party.

I rebelled against all this "silliness", declaring that when I was a mother I would never treat my children like that.

Of course now I agree with everything they told me and no doubt I'll be fighting with my own daughter about such things before long.

But one thing I won't have to worry about is my daughter playing loud music. When I was a teenager I was always being told off for playing music too loudly, and that hasn't changed.

Only it's not my parents shouting at me any more, it's my daughter. Playing my CDs the other day, she walked into the kitchen, stormed over to the CD player and scowled. "This needs to be turned down I'm afraid, it's far too loud," she said, before turning the whole thing off and marching out of the kitchen.

There aren't many times in my day that I feel like I'm a teenager, but that was certainly one.
