If there's a bingo hall in heaven . . .

My gran used to be a huge bingo fan.

Every weekend she'd be at the bingo hall with her lucky charms and pens.

My experience of bingo is confined to a few games on a coach holiday, but that all changed last week when my daughter asked if I'd like to go with her to the bingo night they were running at school. I agreed, roped in my mum for good measure, and the three of us all headed off to see what we could win.

As we entered the school hall, we were presented with three strips of raffle tickets, and our bingo books.

We took our seats and eyed up the prizes. There were boxes of chocolates, toiletries and lots of toys, including a Bratz doll which my daughter immediately announced she was going to win.

Me and my mum looked at each other in horror, knowing that if she didn't win it, we'd never hear the end of it.

The first game came and before I knew it my mum was nudging me in

excitement, as she was waiting for one number.

Next thing I knew, she was shouting "Bingo!" and was presented with some bags of toys, which my daughter immediately bagged.

The next game was won by my daughter's friend, who was sitting next to us, and that was quickly followed by a win by another friend sitting at the same table.

By this time people were starting to groan, as all the prizes seemed to be heading straight for our end of the room.

The next excitement came when the raffle was held and the very first ticket that came out was ours.

I went up to choose the prize and had to choose between the Bratz doll and the chocs.

My desire for a quiet life won over, and the Bratz doll was safely installed next to my daughter.

A few more tickets were chosen and then once again, one of our tickets came out.

This time my daughter chose a Winnie the Pooh suitcase, into which she packed all her winnings for the night.

I have no idea how we ended up winning everything we did,

but I'm beginning to think my dear gran had something to do with it.

After all, she was such a great bingo fan that if there are halls in heaven, I'm pretty sure she's playing in one as we speak . . .
