I am attending a college in August, I have been there many times it is the Arthur Findlay college for the Advancement of Spiritualism and Psychic Science, known fondly to many as 'Stanstead' as it is very near to the Stansted Airport, I remember first walking into Stanstead as a 'Novice Medium' some eight years ago and it still holds its magic and still fills me with inspiration. Here many Mediums have crossed the threshold and felt what I feel.
Stansted Hall, built in 1871, was bequeathed to the Spiritualists' National Union under the will of J. Arthur Findlay, MBE, JP, a former Honorary President of the Union, and in accordance with his wishes is administered by the Union as a College for the advancement of Psychic Science.
Mr Findlay bought the estate in 1923 upon his retirement from business and first mooted the idea of a Spiritualist College at Stansted to the Union in 1945. After personal contacts with three successive Union Presidents a will was drawn up and in 1954 the National Council accepted the proposed bequest of Stansted Hall with an endowment. This was followed by a later gift in the form of stock to be used for furnishing and decorating, and in 1964, a year after the death of his wife, Mr Findlay transferred the Hall, grounds and endowment to the Union. Mr Findlay passed to the higher life in July 1964.
The Arthur Findlay College offers facilities unequalled anywhere in the world in the Spiritualist movement as a residential centre where students can study Spiritualist philosophy and religious practice, Spiritualist healing and awareness, spiritual and psychic unfoldment and kindred disciplines. Courses, lectures and demonstrations are all offered by leading exponents, together with the additional features of a library, museum, lake, magnificent grounds, recreational facilities and full board accommodation, this then will be my home for a week.
This then also is my learning ground, here Mediums burn the midnight oil into the late hours. I have done this course before and have no doubts as to the intensity of it, I will be tested as a teacher of Psychic and Spiritual awareness fully, This also helps my Mediumship for when I give private readings or demonstrate my Mediumship in Theatres or Spiritual Churches, as a Medium I strive to be able to improve my Mediumship, everyone never stops developing we are always learning. I meet so many different people from all over the World as they fly into Stanstead from every corner of the World. It is here I met my contact for working in Copenhagen, his name was Jules and he was attending the course with his wife Millie, after watching me teaching he asked me to run a weeks course in Copenhagen, as Jules runs a Spiritual centre that does workshops.
It is amazing to meet people with so many different views, backgrounds and practices on working Psychically and with Spirit but all of them amazing and wonderful people. I think the last time I attended Stanstead was in 2007, when there was around 35 of us on the teaching course, this was on a Sunday, by Tuesday we where down to 18 students, people had asked to be placed on other courses or gone home. When you attend as a 'Teacher' there is no hiding place, bad habits, lack of knowledge on subjects, your method of instruction are all under a magnifying glass and some people become offended or do not like to be told that their teaching ability is not as it should be.
As teachers of Mediums we have a big responsibility to ensure that when you attend a Spiritual Church, have a private reading or go to a Theatre to see a Medium and that Medium has sat in my development circle or workshop that he/she has the ability to do their job to the full, so that you know who it is that wishes to contact you, you know by the evidence given I.e. passing condition, names, places, type of work and their habits. When someone telephones me or stops me in the street and asks about joining my development circle I am aware of a kindred Spirit, my Spirit Guides will be aware if there is 'anything going on'. I will be aware of their Psychic potential and if any experiences Spiritually has happened, there are many who would like to become a Medium but alas the ability is not there. Just as playing the piano, you could place 100 piano together and have 100 people begin to learn and return in 6 months, you mahe 90 people that have got no further than chop sticks but you may have 10 that can play a concerto, they have the ability, I do not believe it is a 'Gift', I have this ability, that's all.
When thinking about going to a Medium for a reading always look for referrals, ask other people who have received a reading from this Medium. I have had the unfortunate job of undoing what other so called 'Mediums' have done many times, for example I was contacted by a lady in Northampton who informed me that her 18 year old Daughter had visited a Medium for a reading, and was told that as her Father had died at the age of 50, so will the girl, obviously the Daughter was beside herself with worry and shock, her Father had only been passed 12 months and had died in a terrible Road accident, which was in all the local news papers, as was photographs of the grieving family...including the Daughter. I had to sit and contact her loving Father who through his evidence of his character, personality times places, private thoughts that only he and his Daughter Knew did her face slowly break into a smile and then he assured her she would live to a good old age and wiping away tears from her face she gave me a hug and I heard her Father whisper to me 'Thank you' as he slowly pulled away, a happy man.
