Day I was scarred by my pupil
One Sunday morning my daughter was complaining she was bored, so I suggested she go and play schools with her dollies.
Off she went and for the next hour I spied on her bossing around her new "pupils", Quacky Quack Duck, Scooby Doo, Fairy Princess and Bulldog.
She went through a whole school day with them, starting with the register, then activities time, followed by lunch and finally story-time and a very loud sing-song.
It was the funniest thing to watch her because it reminded me so much of when I was a little girl, playing schools with my Tiny Tears dolls and teddy bears. Occasionally I would bribe my brother and his friends into being my pupils, which was great for me because it meant I had real-life people to boss around.
I would make them do maths tests, draw pictures and write stories, and for a while it did not occur to them to complain. However, that all changed one day when I made them put on a play for the parents, which all ended in tears when one of my pupils refused to dance to Terry Wogan's Floral Dance and sank his nails into my arm.
I swear I had the scars for years to come and it put an end to my school game once and for all. Real-life pupils were far too dangerous so I went back to my dollies instead.
Now my daughter is playing schools, she has enrolled me as the headmistress.
Early in the morning when I'm still trying to sleep, she'll appear in my room with a variety of problems and dilemmas.
Quacky Quack Duck is picking on Bulldog, Scooby Doo won't read his books and Fairy Princess is refusing to eat her lunch.
I have to pretend to give each one a stern talking to and then my daughter puts them in the quiet zone in order to think about what they have done.
However, the highlight for me so far has been 'Sports Day' which took place at the unGodly hour of 6am.
While we were still trying to sleep, races were going on all around us.
As my daughter cheered on Quacky Quack Duck in the Across The Room Sprint, I made a mental note to suggest a sponsored silence as the next group activity.
It might cost me money, but at least we'd get some sleep!
