Cinema plan takes step forward
PLANS for a six-screen cinema in the north of the county have taken a step forward with proposals submitted to clear the site.
The Homes and Communities Agency has applied to Corby Council to demolish Tresham College’s buildings to make way for a new Odeon cinema.
It is expected that once approval is given, demolition work could begin on the site in George Street in November.
Corby Council has set aside £500,000 to cover the cost of demolition work and to prepare the area for construction to start.
Last month, Mulbery Property Developments formally applied to Corby Council for planning permission for the Odeon.
The company is also seeking permission for two restaurants and 113 one, two and three-bedroom flats, along with car parking spaces.
Tresham College handed over the George Street building to Corby Council this month before taking over its new £38m campus in Oakley Road, which will open to students on Monday, September 12.
