Children got the chance to hold snakes and get up close with tarantulas and stick insects at a half-term event which took place at Wellingborough Museum.

The event for youngsters took place on Thursday.

Robert Wharton from the museum said: “It was brilliant, we had over 250 people, it really was exceptional.

“There were some snakes, there were tarantula spiders, we had stick insects, very large cockroaches and a very big tortoise.

“The children showed no fear and were most interested in the snakes.

“The group which brought them in were very good, they told the children all about how they lived, they were very helpful.”

Other half-term events at the museum included a visit from First World War soldier Corporal Walker Luck on Wednesday.

On Friday children took part in a giant game of snakes and ladders and got the chance to do crafts with the Bifrost Guard.
