WOULD-BE walkers are being encouraged to take part in a series of forthcoming events to help them get active.

Kettering Council has organised more than 20 free walks between during the summer and the first begins in Windmill Avenue on Thursday, April 3.

Community services office Shaun Birdsall said the walk would be ideal for anyone looking to improve their fitness.

Mr Birdsall said: "Most of the walks are about three miles long and are perfect for anyone who is looking to get into walking.

"The walks are led by volunteers and are not too challenging.

"We always try to start and finish at a pub so people can have a drink after if they want.

"The walks are good fun for people who might not want to do something like go to a gym.

"We always try to arrange the walks for different locations for variety and so people all over the region can take part."

The walks are aimed at people aged over 50 and they all begin at 10.30am.

Mr Birdsall said the council is also looking for volunteers to help lead the walk.

Anyone who wants to take part in a walk or volunteer can call the Kettering Tourist Information Centre on 01536 525619.

Get Active co-ordinator Jo Newberry said: "Walking is one of the best ways of exercising and I would really recommend these walks to people."
